Sail and Stay Holidays

Why not try a leisurely and luxurious break at Lower Norton combined with sailing on our beautiful 39ft classic yacht 'VAGABOND'.

The sailing days are designed for guests with little or no sailing experience and alternate with free days to do as you please.

A typical day would involve a sail along the beautiful South Devon coast, anchor in a cove for a picnic lunch, followed by a return sail to Dartmouth and supper back at Lower Norton.

More experienced sailors may like to join in a race.

You can book as many days sailing as you want during your stay at Lower Norton. A days sailing on 'Vagabond' costs £80 per person including lunch on board.

Please contact us for more information.

'Vagabond can accomodate up tp six people, so why not bring some friends?'

'Vagabond' is a 39ft all varnished fast cruiser designed and built in 1950 by Tore

Holm using Honduras mahogany on oak and steel frames. Tore Holm won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in five Olympics between 1920 and 1948 in boats he designed and built, and the metre boat influence is obvious in Vagabonds' design. She is equipped with safety equipment to a high standard and maintained as a beautiful classic should be.

The sailing is tailored to suit any level of experience, from beginner just wishing to give sailing a try to experienced sailors who might like to race. A popular option is a combination of sailing days and free days to do as you please.

A typical five night stay might be as follows:-

Day 1
Arrive at Lower Norton Farmhouse during the afternoon, in time to join us for a drink on the terrace before a candlelit dinner in our 400 year old dining room.

Day 2
After breakfast, drive down to Dartmouth for a day sailing on Vagabond along the Devon coast, stopping at a cove for a picnic lunch before sailing back to Dartmouth and home to a hearty sailor's supper.

Day 3
A free day to explore the lovely South Hams scenery and maybe a National Trust property, or just laze around and read or walk in our own gardens. Finish up with dinner 'at home' or in one of the excellent local pubs.

Day 4
Another day sailing on Vagabond, exploring along the coast or up the lovely River Dart, again with a picnic lunch and followed by supper at home.

Day 5
You may decide to spend another day on Vagabond or have a free day to explore, perhaps, the picturesque local towns of Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe, maybe Dartmoor or a trip on a steam railway. Finally returning for dinner at home, or perhaps at the famous New Angel restaurant run by celebrity chef John Burton-Race (Book well in advance).

Whilst we do not in any way aim to run a course in sailing, we assume that most people will want to take an active part in sailing Vagabond. Consequently Peter, who has over 40 years sailing experience, will give instruction as required (but with no pressure!) and a great deal will be learned.
